Events are to be held across south east London on Friday 27 January to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2023.
This year, the theme of the day is ordinary people, recognising how ordinary people were involved in all aspects of the Holocaust and to encourage us to think about how ordinary people can play a big part in challenging prejudice today.
Lewisham
On the 27 January, the Mayor of Lewisham, Damien Egan will light a candle in the council chamber to mark the day.
Residents are welcome to light a candle and reflect at Hither Green Crematorium Chapel on Sunday 29 January.
A local community event is to be hosted by Lewisham’s Holocaust Memorial Day Committee at 3pm on the 29 January.
The event will have a number of speakers from different faiths across the borough, including Lewisham Islamic Centre and St Laurence church, as well as holocaust survivors and their families.

Croydon
Croydon Council is hosting a Holocaust Memorial Day event at Croydon Town Hall on the 27 January.
They will hold a traditional public ceremony in the Council Chamber from 12-1:15pm which will include presentations from schools and keynote speakers from Generation2Generation.

Blackheath
Blackheath Libary is running a book display to promote awareness of the holocaust and genocide and to highlight the work of the Holocaust Memorial Day.
Greenwich
Holocaust Memorial day will be commemorated at Woolwich Town Hall on the 30 January at 11:30pm.
The event will include speeches, performances and a memorial prayer.

Lambeth
Lambeth Council is holding a Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration at Lambeth Town Hall and online on Sunday 22 January at 3pm.
Joan Salter MBE will be the keynote speaker.
Salter is a child survivor of the holocaust, who was born in Brussels in 1940 and was just three months old when Belgium was invaded by the Nazis.
