Netflix drop new tease for final season of flagship show ‘Stranger Things’

Netflix has revealed new details for the upcoming final season of their flagship show Stranger Things, including a 2025 release, episode titles and more.

Fans of the Netflix show celebrate Stranger Things Day each year on Nov 6, the day Will Byers vanishes in the show’s first episode.

Each year, Netflix mark this day among the fandom by revealing exciting new information for upcoming seasons of the show, with the highly anticipated fifth season being the shows last.

Last Wednesday, fans were treated with a ‘title tease’ posted to Netflix’s official social media platforms, which revealed all eight episode titles for the final season, along with confirmation of a 2025 release.

The teaser also revealed that season five will take place in the fall of 1987, a lengthy 18 months after the crazy cliffhanger of Stranger Things 4, which hit Netflix in the summer of 2022.

Fans have been waiting over two years for updates on this final season, for which production was delayed due to Covid-19 and a writers/actors strike.

Fans around the globe have taken to Twitter, TikTok, Youtube and other platforms, theorising what these episode titles could be hinting at regarding the plot of the shows final outing.

Many fans believe that episode two, titled The Vanishing of Redacted*, is referring to Holly Wheeler, since Nell Fisher recently took over the role and the character of Mike and Nancy’s little sister is expected to play a larger role this season, as indicated by the behind the scenes teaser from July.

Episode sux, Escape from Camazotz, has led a number of fans to believe the beloved Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, from the shows most recent season will return.

In Mayan mythology Camazotz means ‘death bat’ and is associated with sacrifice, which some fans have drawn a connection to Eddie’s heroic sacrifice at the hands of bats during last season’s finale.

The final episode, titled The Rightside Up, is seen as a stellar choice for the series finale, mirroring the final episode of the first season, The Upside Down, in a true full circle style.

David Harbour, who plays Chief Jim Hopper, said: “Episode eight, they land the plane, and it is the best episode we’ve ever done.”

These episode titles could be subject to change however, as with previous seasons of the show whereby episode titles have been revealed only to change by the time the episodes hit Netflix.

Regardless, Stranger Things fans are eagerly awaiting the final instalment which is due to wrap filming early next year.

Season five of Stranger Things arrives on Netflix in 2025, and if you can’t wait until then, Stranger Things has a stage production titled The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End.
