A Chelsea Flower Show Garden will be donated to a UK charity, to benefit from a calm and environmentally friendly community space as part of Water Saving Week 2024.
The Water Saving Garden, designed by Chiltern Garden Design founder Sam Proctor, is a unique entry for the celebrated gardening event run by the Royal Horticultural Society.
The winning charity, due to be announced in summer 2024, will have the garden, including plants, trees and water saving elements, installed by experts.
Entered within the Container Gardens category, the Water Saving Garden is a domestic courtyard space inspired by the Chiltern’s rare chalk streams, designed to feature ingenious water efficiency solutions within a contemporary setting.
The competition, organised by Affinity Water, will see a winning charity benefit from a fully installed garden comprising of more than 100 herbaceous plants, shrubs and bulbs planted across different containers, in addition to a dedicated water feature, bamboo decking and tree.
Participating charities can upload a video or answer an online form to showcase their space and talk about how the communities they serve will benefit from a new peaceful and environmental conscious space.
Rebecca Froud, Director of Customer Experience at Affinity Water, said: “We were delighted to partner with Sam Proctor and celebrate a talented designer from our supply area when she created this innovative, stylish water-saving garden, not least because its unique approach matches our desire to improve water efficiency in Southeast England.
“We want to make sure that her design lives on in the communities we serve, and we hope It will create a real asset to the chosen charity.”
A panel of garden and water experts, including Sam Proctor, designer of the Water Saving Garden for Chelsea Flower Show, will review the entries and shortlist potential winners in the summer.
