WATCH: The Greenwich choir managing Parkinson’s with singing

This Greenwich choir is tackling the consequences of Parkinson’s through singing.

Research conducted by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance found that singing had an overall positive impact on the physical health, social life and well-being of participants with Parkinson’s.

Based at The Plumstead Centre the group begin with vocal warm-ups and sings a variety of classic songs like Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World and The Beatles Yellow Submarine.

Almost 153,000 people live with Parkinson’s in the UK and Greenwich choir member Davindra Patel, 68, said: “The group gives me a reason to get up in the morning.”

Beginning online during the COVID-19 pandemic the group now meets on alternate Fridays in Plumstead for singing, support and a slice of cake.
